It also serves victims of sexual assault through the VOICE program and homeless men, women and families through the McHenry County PADS. Pioneer Center for Human Services serves McHenry County Children from birth through aged 5, adults with disabilities, homeless men, women, and families.
Volunteer Needs and Requirements We are always looking for volunteers to be on committees that plan our fundraising events. The time commitment would be to attend committee meetings approximately once a month and help in the planning and execution of the event. Pioneer has about four events a year that include the Gold Rush Gala, Golf Outing, Holiday Luncheon and Book Review and a special concert or event that supports PADS (a Pioneer program).
Volunteers are also needed to support the PADS program which typically are located at church sites. The PADS program services homeless and emergency shelter program. Volunteer responsibilities vary, but typically involved meal serving, set-up, clean up and supervision. Time commitment is what volunteer is able to offer.
Pioneer is also looking for volunteers to be on call to pick up furniture donations, as needed. The primary contact for volunteering is Barb Swanson 815-759-7144 bswanson@pioneercenter.org
Guidelines for local businesses and residents interested in helping We are very appreciative of third party fundraising that is done by businesses or other organizations and we are open to new and different ideas. We work with each business or organization on a case by case basis to develop a program or event that meets the needs of both parties.
CASA of McHenry County Kelly Pokharel 815-206-4585 kelly@casamchenrycounty.org CASA provides trained volunteers to advocate for abused and neglected child victims involved in Juvenile Court in McHenry County. CASA serves court involved abused and neglected children ranging in age from 0-21 years, from all backgrounds.
Volunteer Needs and Requirements We are always recruiting volunteers to become child advocates in the courtroom (men and minorities are needed). We hold formal training 2x a year (fall and spring). Volunteers must complete the 40 hour training before taking a case. No prior experience is necessary. We are also always recruiting for board members. Occasionally we use volunteers for office assistance and last minute activities but this is not often.
Guidelines for local businesses and residents interested in helping We ask that all fundraising activity be shared with the office to avoid duplication, overlap and misrepresentation of the organization. However, frequently service groups and businesses choose to make donations to CASA on their own. This does not need to be cleared with the office.
